The Doctorate by Publication (Practicing Doctorate) involves the presentation of previously published scholarly work, such as books, book chapters, and journal articles, which together form a coherent body of work and show evidence of an original contribution to a particular field of study.
This route is best suited for those who have extensive publications and possess an in-depth knowledge and vast base of experience in a specialist field such as working professionals, researchers and academics who do not currently hold a doctoral qualification. Awards availble include;
Doctor of Music (for published compositions)
Doctor of Philosophy
Doctor of Arts (for practised based work)
Previously published academic work (research) willbe evaluated to the same rigorous standards as a traditional PhD per thesis.

- Submission of a substantial portfolio of work
- Completion of a written supportting statement of 10,000 words
- Defence of the thesis in front of a three strong panel
- Where possible presentation of statement at a public event
Entry requirements
Students for this qualification must already hold a Masters degree in an appropriate subject
- Minimum experience of 5 years in a management/academic/professional position.
- Brief summary of relevant publications and/or portfolio materials
- Full CV, including all research results (include evidence of a unifying theme in publications/results and originality);
- 2-3 references from previous employers (nomination letter).
How much time do I need?
- Most of our students study part time, completing 60 credits a year.
- This will usually mean studying for 6-12 hours a week.
